Music

Boyne Island State School believes in providing a quality music program for all students.  We recognise how important it is for students to engage in music regularly to help improve student's outcomes both academically and socially.

The appointed qualified music teacher is passionate about the musical health of children and aims to provide a wide range of programs and opportunities for students to become involved with.  it is important for students to not only enjoy what they are learning, but that have plenty of opportunity to share this with others through performances either in formal settings, or in the playground at lunchtime or by visiting a neighbouring classroom for a quick 5 minute concert before school begins.

Classroom Music 

All students undertake a 30 minute music lesson weekly. 

Students learn to understand and perform music through singing and playing a range of instruments such as percussion, recorder and ukulele. 

Through this students gain skills in becoming musically and aurally literate. 

Vocal Club 

The Vocal Club rehearse on Tuesday mornings at 8:15am until 8:45am.  All students between grades 2 to 6 are welcome.

 

Students experience groups singing not only through repertoire, but also through exploring different ways to sing through games, rounds, tongue twisters and ore.

 

The Vocal Club performs for a variety of events such as our annual "Grandparent's Morning", school ANZAC service, community carols, the annual Gladstone Eisteddfod  just to name a few.  

Instrumental Music Program 

Our instrumental music program enables students in year 4 to 6 to learn a woodwind  (flute, clarinet and saxophone), brass (trumpet, trombone, tuba and euphonium) or percussion  (tuned and un-tuned) instrument.

 

Students wishing to enrol in the program undergo preliminary testing to determine their natural physical characteristics.  Students are then selected for an instrument from both their physical suitability's and vacancies in the program.

 

Students have 3 contact sessions with the teacher throughout the week.  They are instructed in small group lessons for 30 minutes, along with two Concert Band rehearsals before school.

 

There are a limited number of lower costing instruments (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet and trombone) available for hire for your child's first year of learning.  High costing instruments (tuba, euphonium, tenor saxophone, bass clarinet) are available or hire throughout their involvement in the program.

 

If you would like your child to be considered for inclusion in our program, application forms for the upcoming recruitment drive for 2016 are available now from the school office.

 

Early Instrumental Music Program Year 3 Instrumental Music Club  

Students in year 3 who are showing a desire to participate in the Instrumental Music   Program when they enter year 4 are offered a year exploring what it means to learn an instrument and be committed to such a task.

Students learn the fundamentals of recorder and percussion playing, skills which are  transferred to learning any woodwind, brass and percussion instrument the following  year.

This gives students a great head start to being involved in our Instrumental Music  Program from year 4 to 6.
